The water in our area is very hard (magnesium content is very high). shampoo and using hair conditioner does not help and the hair become very dry and rough after the wash. I donot use any oil on the hair. Any solution other than using the RO water or bying the mineral water. Otherwise my hair are normal.and they behave nicely when they are washed at somebody else's home

Where water is very hard, the local utility often brings mineral content to within a moderate range of 5 or 6 GPG. But this is still fairly hard; because a utility company's water is used for many purposes where softening is unnecessary or irrelevant, such as for watering public parks, further softening usually must be handled in the home.

Conditioning water that tests lower than 3 GPG is generally considered a luxury because the cost outweighs the potential benefits. If your water tests harder, you can save significantly on laundry and dishwashing costs by using less detergent, shorter cycles and cooler wash water.

One solution for softening wash water alone is to use a packaged water conditioner before each wash and rinse cycle. These products essentially trap hardness minerals during the wash. A "non-precipitating" type is recommended for automatic washers because it flushes away the hard minerals rather than suspending them in the washing solution.

The more complete and more typical answer to softening is a whole-house water softener. Installing a water softener can help minimize deposits in pipes and appliances; cut-down on spots on dishes and bathtub rings; reduce the amount of soap, shampoo and detergent you use; make your skin smooth and soft and your hair softer and shinier

It does make hair drier and more brittle but only if you're stuck with it for years. Short term really isn't going to do a whole lot of damage. I've had hard water for ten years and as long as I do a liberal spray of Infusium 23 (brown bottle) right after I wash & condition, it's all good.

by using hard water it is harm to you by some micrologically it starts and later you may become bald headed. to prevent this you may use water which is heated hot at first and you later on filter it and have a bath.it would do good . but don't take it hot on everyday you may have some problem such that it may affect your scalp always use mild hot water

FORGET IT, BECAUSE HARD WATER NEVER GIVES SOFT HAIR OR SMOOTH SKIN.
