A nonprofit organization is an organization whose primary objective is to support an issue or matter of private interest or public concern for non-commercial purposes.
Generally nonprofits are in involved in an innumerable range of areas relating to the arts, charities, education, politics, religion, research, sports or some other endeavor.
In the United States, nonprofit organizations may apply for tax exempt status, so that the organization itself may be exempt from income tax and other taxes. Additionally, people who give can claim back any income tax paid on donations, or deduct from their own tax liability the amount of the donation.

The organizations that don't work for profir, out of what they earn they take enough to support themselves and give the rest in their cause.

It's an organisation which does not operate primarily to make a profit; its main objective is usually to fund/support an issue or need in the public domain. Ex. a charity.

Non - profit organizations are those institutions who serve their purposes solely for the betterment of human mankind. Their work is purely service oriented and not profit making.

An organization that doesn't gain profit or $$$ it's charity, really. Churches, homeless shelters, animal shelters(some), there are quite a bit.

Sometimes I think they are paid by the state.

I hope you meant non-profit. They are set up usually to do social work, medical clinics, programs run by the church. In their purpose is to do projects without making a profit. They are just to break even.
