If you can get lockjaw from stepping on a rusty nail, what about eating food that was cooked in an iron pan or pot with rust? Logically this should do the same thing, shouldn't it?

No. Lockjaw, or tetanus, occurs due to infection caused by a puncture wound. It is not the rust that causes the infection, but bacteria that can be found on an old rusty nail laying on the ground. The rust causes the bacteria to cling more easily to the nail.

Probably not. A rusty nail has dirt on it, and the causative bacterium (Clostridium tetani) is in the dirt. (In other words, it's not the rust that does it.) If your iron pot also has dirt in it: wash it, boil water in it for 10 minutes, then dump the water and let the pan cool to room temperature. Whatever you cook next, make sure to boil it as well.

No. Lockjaw happens when bacteria enter the blood stream. Rust is plunged into stomach acid. It's not good to eat rust, but it can't give you lockjaw.

The rust isn't solid for you. I had some skillets that had gotten rusty and my Dad geared up a hearth and positioned them into the hearth. whilst they got here out he scrubbed them with between the plastic scrubby issues and dried it with paper towels. Then he lined the pan in oil and baked it. I actually have a scrubby brush i take advantage of on it and warm water yet it is all. I constantly dry it happy with a paper towel. My Grandmother used to sprinkle salt into the pan if some thing have been given burnt on and scrub with warm water and a paper towel. returned you ought to dry them ok.No cleansing soap. cleansing soap will get rid of the seasoning.
