they are not the superpower of racing that they should be with all their money . do they need to release frankie . do they need to buy from coolmore . or do they need a new trainer in fact is saeed bin suroor the actual trainer or just a figure head . they seem to be entering a lot of horses in handicaps nothing against handicaps but their not going to do anything for a horses stud values , i know we can see a horse progress through handicaps and become a group 1 winner notnowcato being the first that comes to mind but the godolphin horses are not even winning handicaps . it's not all about pedigree as sir percy's derby victory would sugesst , his sire mark of esteem was a miler ,danehill was a sprinter who sired multiple group 1 winners over a mile , ten furlongs and even the derby , so where are they going wrong ?

My belief, along with many others, is that in recent years Godolphin have gone for quantity over quality. Last year they had over 300 horses registered as in the ownership of Godolphin, that's a lot of horse to train!

A friend of mine has worked for Godolphin for some years and when I asked him what he thought, he said the same thing: "When I first arrived I walked down the barn and saw Group 1 horses everywhere I looked, now it is just handicappers! It is no good" He's Italian (no it's not Frankie) but you get the gist.

I think Saeed has involvement with the training of the most prominent horses, but I agree that he is mostly a figurehead. When you have that many horses under your control it is impossible to give them the individual attention they need.

To my knowledge, the horses at Godolphin are divided into groups and each group has their own "trainer" that oversees them, along with a group of staff that care for them. This is also useful for quarantine purposes - if you get an outbreak of a virus on a yard you can keep the infected horses isolated from the others to prevent disease from spreading.

Sheikh Mohammed's policy of not buying horses by Coolmore sires could be a false economy, but the main benefactors will be those people selling horses by stallions that are neither Coolmore or Darley, i.e. Pivotal, Kingmambo, Storm Cat, etc.

I have to say that the Sheikh's numbers policy also seems to apply to his breeding operation. I worked on one of his studs about 6 years ago and the number of mares that were, to be frank, useless was amazing. If he took the same line as The Aga Khan and had frequent culls of his broodmare band (I mean selling them, not killing them!), he may have better success on that front. I firmly believe that if a mare has not produced a winner within her first 4 or 5 foals she should be taken out of the broodmare population: at the end of the day if we keep breeding from useless animals (stallions and mares) we will weaken the whole breed.

World class was Danehill.Sometimes stables have lean spells. They always bounce back.Godolphin has too much horse flesh to write off.Don't think Franckie would be interested in another stable
