I have had the experience, when I travel to certain countries, that the chicken tastes like fish... I assume because they are fed fish. I have also seen in these countries, cows, sheep and chicken eat from garbage. Therefore, if it's true that you are what you eat, am I eating garbage? Is it harmful to eat an animal that has eaten garbage? What if they eat medicine that has been thrown into the garbage?

I think it depends on what part of the animal you are eating. Most of the meat is harmless in terms of "not related to what garbage the animal has eaten". Unless it got poisoned so bad that it affected his entire body.
But besides that... I think you're safe.

Perhaps the liver is an exception, considering it's function as an organ. But even that is probably harmless as long as you don't eat tons of 'em.

By and large I would say yes, you are what you eat (and drink, and smoke etc). But when you next see a chicken, say, pecking in a garbage heap, if you look more carefully, the chicken will be picking through for the most suitable foods it can find. Perhaps some fragments of breakfast cereal. It will not seek to consume say, soiled lavatory paper, or carpet fluff, or used condoms.

Pigs can be such enthusiastic feeders that undesirable items get hoovered up in the meal.

But I do believe that you are what you eat. Consider, a seed planted in good compost, watered and fed, will prosper. Now plant an identical seed in a pot of, say, sand, masala sauce, and water it daily with diluted tomato ketchup and salt. It may just germinate but it won't grow! (Actually, I don't even know if it would germinate, but I might try it this spring in the greenhouse - maybe it'll grow a champion plant!?)

Actually, animals you eat can spread disease to you, ie mad cow disease. Pigs originally were more dangerous to eat because they ate other animals as well as vegetables.

All meats cooked at high temps are safe for the most part. But some diseases are still carried by animals and can't be treated with antibiotics ie mad cow disease, which is a prion, not a bacteria or virus.

It depends...In the US nowadays, pretty much all the meat we eat is given growth hormones, this of course is not good to eat. Just as pesticides on fruits and vegis is bad for you.
I stick with organic foods, including meat. This means that the fruits and vegis haven't been sprayed with pesticides, and the animals are fed the correct diet.
