We have the CHP California Highway Patrol, but other than that I do not believe there is a State police.

Of course we have police at the county and city level.

Update: Apparently they did exist at one time! They protected the Governor. But then they merged with the CHP.

The California State Police act in the role of officers of the state courts ( much as bailiff's do in county courts), and provide protection for the Governor. They do exist, and they are NOT the same as the Highway Patrol.
