i've suffered from nosebleeds for almost 9 years now, they either come about as a result of slight knocks, but normally, i can be doing nothing out of the ordinary and get one. how do i stop them? ive had numerous corterisations on my nose which have all worked for about a week, and then failed. im sure i read in a daily mail health article about an operation which stops them completly, anybody know anything about it or whether there is actually a way of stopiing them, and not just having corterisations every month?

Hi there,

I sympathise but have no real answers. I had a very similar condition for my first 25 years! I am not sure how old you are but I seemed to grow out of them, I have not had a major bleed now for several years; I am now 30. I did have a major bleed which required a trip to hospital and had a cauterization, not sure if the ENT clinic did a massive burn then as I don't remember every having a serious one since!

All I was ever offered was cauterization as treatement; I lost count of the number I had. Alcohol consumption was a thing that I tried to cut out, I used to get a lot when I was out in warm bars with friends. Also try and make sure your diet is good, incl plenty of Vitamin C and fibre.

All I can say is good luck!

Epistaxis is nose bleeding, which occurs from the anterior or posterior portion of the nasal septum. Diagnosis is by direct visualization. Treatment varies by site of bleeding but includes cautery and various types of packing.
The cause of nosebleeds can generally be divided into two categories, local and systematic factors. The underlying cause should be investigated and treatment taken.
Please see the web pages for more details on epistaxis (nosebleed).

I know, nose bleeds are such a pain, and are very annoying. I would get checked out, just in case you have something such as a blood disorder, (e.g. nose bleeds are common with ITP), but there are lots of reasons for Nose bleeds. I haven't personally heard of any operations, although I'm sure your doctor/haemotologist could give you some advice
