If one is very possessive is it because the element of love is more or is it the insecurity within.

Possessiveness is part love (usually), and also part insecurity. When a man is possessive with me, I like it; that is my natural reaction; it just feels good to me. Some people like it, some don't. I think if its in moderation, most people are flattered or touched by it..

In my case, when I am possesive it is not so much about insecurity or how much I love or do not love someone as it is about my ego. I am spoiled and selfish and am very open about that with the men I date. There are many different reasons for possessiveness. However, if his/her possessiveness becomes uncomfortable or violent, RUN...don't walk away!

Possessiveness is mistaken as love. It's actually insecurity and can lead to abuse at times.

There is old chinese saying

Where there is little love there is little jelousy.
Where there is much love there is more jelousy.

but

Where there is infinite love there is no room for the jelousy.

This is true for possesiveness too. Its a mixture of love (wrongly interprated) & insecurity.

One will feel possesive about you only if I think you love him & is insecured about continuation of the loveship.

if either of them is removed Possessiveness is also vanished.

possessiveness is i think a very natural thing in love.............
but i think it also comes due to some sort of insecurity feeling or inferiority complex......................
if you are possessive in case of certain person it means that you obviously love him the most & you may have a sort of fear that the particular person doesn't love you the most...................
or else the possiveness may be b'coz of feeling that.......... 'iam not lovable' which i think make the people very meticulous about certain persons love & will be desperate to get it which i think leads to possessiveness

I like to think of it as love but I know deep down it's insecurity.

Possessivenessis not love and it can turn into control then violence. If you truely love someone you trust them and should not feel insecure. Its imature.
