For last few weeks, I have been getting painful burning itches on my back when I dry after showering.

What is causing this and how do I stop it? I LOVE to be in water but gee... It's getting to point where I really don't want to shower anymore.

It seems like your skin is too dry. skin dries more when we shower....

Try using not so hot water, and get someone to rub some lotion on your back.

Assuming you haven't changed your soap, it's probably just dry skin like many other people have told you. That's a common problem for many of us in the winter months.

If your soap doesn't bother you any other time of year, then you just need to add a moisturizer after you shower in winter. That's what I do every time I have that problem. The key is that you need to put the lotion on every day, even on days when your skin feels okay. That way it won't become so itchy and painful.

You don't have to spend a lot of money on lotion either. Suave has a lot of good reasonably-priced products, and if you don't mind spending a little more you could go with something from Jergen's, Nivea or Lubriderm. As a male, you'll probably want to get something that smells either neutral or masculine, rather than like roses.

The lotion I'm using right now is from Suave's Skin Therapy line, and it's one of the best lotions I've ever used. It spreads easily and I don't find myself getting itchy later in the day. It's an incredible bargain too.

There's no reason you should have to give up showering or being in the hot water. Speaking of water, you should make sure you drink plenty of water, which will also help keep your skin hydrated.

Your skin is far drier than you think it is. Staying in water or washing too often with water can dry your skin and leave it parched. Use a good, cooling moisturizer on your back (as a matter of fact all over your body). There is a cucumber moisturizer available with St.Ives OR you could use Jergens for ultra-dry skin OR any good moiturizer from the Body Shop. When in the shower don't use a scrub or loofah until you have revived your skin well and it is back to what it was or better. Stop using soap. Use a moiturizing body wash like 'Olay' or 'Lever 2000' or if you know any product that's even better. Lack of moisture in your skin can make you scratch like crazy and if it gets really bad it burns. I think this is what has happened to you. Smoothen up your skin with good creams and lotions. (Don't buy cheap ones, they don't get absorbed well.) REMEMBER, every time you get out of the shower (or pool or any place with water), as soon as you dry yourself, slather on some quick absorbing lotion.

Maybe your shower is to hot and when you get out your body cools down to fast. I'm not sure on this one!
