For last few weeks, I have been getting painful burning itches on my back when I dry after showering.

What is causing this and how do I stop it? I LOVE to be in water but gee... It's getting to point where I really don't want to shower anymore.

It is called winter itch. It is caused by taking long, hot showers that dry out the skin. Take quick, warm ones and all that itching will stop. I have had that before and know how you feel.

Nonspecific BRIs: Nonspecific BRIs are those for which a link between building-related exposure and illness are more difficult to prove. The term sick building syndrome has been used to refer to illnesses that occur in clusters within a building for which the symptoms are often nonspecific, including itchy, irritated, dry or watery eyes; rhinorrhea or nasal congestion; throat soreness or tightness; dry itchy skin or unexplained skin rashes; and headache, lethargy, and difficulty concentrating.

Also research the site below for information addendum to the excerpt above for information regarding allergies. Also, commercials are beginning to air about 'Winter Itch' which is treated by an application of an anti-itch medication.

If you speak with someone who sells and or installs water purification devices in homes, they can tell you that the additives to the 'city' water are often harmful to sensitive skin. You may want to look into getting a device fitted to your hot water tank to reduce the amount of chorine and other chemicals in your bath water. The last two sources below are for companies that feature such products.

Just as a precautionary measure, I suggest that you be examined for allergies and nail fungus. If you are itching to break the skin, a nail fungus (such as 'Digger') could lead to blood poisoning which could prove fatal.

Maybe your soap or body wash is too strong. Try something with a pH level that is neutral. Or you have really hard towels and you are drying yourself too hard.
