Yes, sea water can be desalinated to use for irrigation or drinking. It takes a lot of electricity to do this.

Some Middle East states already rely on these systems to provide their drinking water.

converting sea water into potable water is adopted as a viable technique nowadays in many middle east countries.Similarly it is possible to convert sea water into soft water of required quality for irrigation .Only economic viability is to be looked into.

yes of course but the problems are
1.this process is mainly for the drinking water requirement.
so we can not use it for aqri.
2. water from this process have only less amount of minerals
so we are suppose to add minerals to it. this is very expensive one
