The wages of sin are NOT a Roman execution.
for the wages of sin is death. -Romans 6:23
This is physical AND spiritual death. The Romans could kill with an execution, that was all they were capable of. We are also told that:
Fear not them that kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. -Matthew 10:28
The wages of sin are a worse thing than a Roman execution.

Jesus was so awesome that his day of suffering was easily equal in measure to all of our sins put together. Bundy could have killed eleven more people, and fed them to Dahmer, and it would still be insignificant next to Jesus's pain, multiplied by how awesome Jesus was. He was the son of God, which is kind of like being royalty, so he shouldn't have to partake of suffering. He was so awesome, and yet we killed him! Why couldn't we all see how awesome he was?
