You should drink around 8 tall glasses MINIMUM. It also takes a few days to truly be hydrated. I spoke with a physician's assitant who always happens to be a Special Forces medic and he told me that many Americans are chronically dehydrated. They usually have small headaches and are slightly lethargic but don't really notice it until they are truly hydrated. I drink over 12 tall glasses a day. But at the same time, I'm very physically active.
Now there have been instances where people can be overhydrated. The circumstances for that to be true are extreme. The individual may consuming as much as 50, 60, or 80 glasses a day. I've read of these instances where the individual was seeking to "get high" off the faintness and dizzyness of electrolyte imbalance. These are, of course, very extreme cases.
The absolute very best amount to drink is the minimum it takes to keep your urine CLEAR. So now you have a perfect measuring tool for your water intake.
Hope this helps.

Every day you lose water through your breath, perspiration, urine and bowel movements. For your body to function properly, you must replenish its water supply by consuming beverages and foods that contain water.
A couple of approaches attempt to approximate water needs for the average, healthy adult living in a temperate climate.
Replacement approach. The average urine output for adults is 1.5 liters a day. You lose close to an additional liter of water a day through breathing, sweating and bowel movements. Food usually accounts for 20 percent of your total fluid intake, so if you consume 2 liters of water or other beverages a day (a little more than 8 cups) along with your normal diet, you will typically replace the lost fluids.
Dietary recommendations. The Institute of Medicine advises that men consume roughly 3.0 liters (about 13 cups) of total beverages a day and women consume 2.2 liters (about 9 cups) of total beverages a day.

Daily need for water is from 1,5 - 2 liters per day, but it is good to drink water 1,5 - 2 hours after meal, not before. After that time you can drink water as much as you want.

Supposedly there is no real medically correct answer to this, but they say 8 (8 once) glasses should be good.
