OK -
Simply put. Your body type is dependent on BOTH genetics AND environment.

!!!!!!!!! Phenotype = genotype + environment !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brad Pitt has an amazing work out environment. Overall (because he is well off, and probably takes care of his mental health etc.), his environment gives him the edge to look and feel great. And he himself got there! So really, we cannot properly asses if he has really "good genes".

Dude - mind over matter! There is thousands of years worth of history when little "genetic pipsqueaks" totally took down Vin Diesel goliaths!

My tip - keep working out and work out your mind. Visually see yourself and where you want to go and what you want to look like. Then - want it so much that you just have to do it, no questions asked! Fill your brain with knowledge just as much as you pump iron.

I'm assuming you're a guy - so testosterone comes into play. Your body is probably exploding with testosterone right now. (there's your genetic factor for you: testosterone - and everyone has it - girls have trace amounts of testosterone; just like guys have trace estrogen)

Whatever you do - Steroids will f - - - you up! Testicle shrinkage and impotence - are just some of the long term effects! Get a physique the natural way. Effort!
Creatine monophosphate and other strength/beefing supplements should be used under supervision of a doctor with routine checkups. These can f you up as well if you are not careful.

Eat lots of natural protein. These help you build muscle. LEAN meats (sorry - not a greasy burger, but a good chunk of quality steak now and then). Soy, squash and beans are vegetarian sources of proteins. Whey proteins shakes are good too - if it's just the protein you need - and quick (great after a workout).

Good luck.

Every person has a particular body, each person varies in proportion. Genes will not hinder you from achieving the best possible body condition you can through exercise for your particular built. Be happy for what you have and that you are a healthy individual, able to excercise and become better. Be the best you can be and take pride in being consistent about taking good care of yourself, inside and out.

No, working out is not hindered by genetics. The only part that genetics will influence is the shape of your muscles. example: you can't make your torso longer or shorter, your arms longer or shorter, or your legs longer or shorter.
Think of yourself as a sculptor in which you are making a work of art. The size of the muscles will grow in direct proportions to stress of weight or resistance that is applied to them.
Your genetics or heritage will not replace hard work. It takes effort to achieve the size and symmetry that you are attempting to achieve. Genetics are the genes and traits that your family passes down to you.
If most of the people in your family are thin you may have to work harder to add muscle.
If most of the people in your family are obese then you may have to work harder to get a lean and sinewy body.
Stay with it don't give up on your dream.

They are a factor to the extent that if you are built like say, Steve Buscemi, you will probably never be able to pack on the mass of Vin Diesel. However, Brad Pit has a pretty middle of the road build, not wiry and not musclebound, so unless you're really scrawny you should be able to acheive that look.

genetics is not that much of a factor when it comes to working out.

with the proper diet and training program anyone can make drastic changes to both muscle size and functional strength.
