I think you should accept the card. They are clearly trying to make things right and show you they value your business. Many stores aren't so generous. Also keep in mind that by using the gift card, you aren't really giving them business because you are spending their money. If you still don't want the card, and you don't want to give it away, then all you can really do is throw it out. Maybe the store has another location can shop at to use the card?

The gift card really is a generous gesture, as many companies don't do this. I would consider using it, perhaps if you ever do any traveling, use it at another location, as your initial problem sounds specific to the location in which you were shopping at the time.
Otherwise, you could give the card to family from out of town, especially if you know they already shop at the store. Perhaps the store in their town provides exceptional service. These things definitely vary from store to store.
Or, barring that, give it to charity. Most of them will use it to buy office supplies or essentials, perhaps canned goods. They won't necessarily "re-gift" the card itself - instead, they will use it to purchase the items necessary for their clients.
By not using the card at all, you are basically putting money back in the company's pocket. I'm certain, after the way you were treated at the store, that that's not what you want to do, either.
Sorry about your experiences, but there are several ways to take your much deserved apology from the corporate office and put it to good use without feeling that you've let down your scruples by going back to the same location.

They're trying to show you that they value your business. I think it's a nice gesture. Reconsider your attitude toward the company. But if you don't use it, that's okay too.

Well you deserve for having been treated poorly so spend it and while you are about to leave the shop, comment loudly how bad it is and that you are never going to shop there again...

use it... the store will make 20 US out of you, if you throw it away...
so go there, load up on anything you may use (white Tshirts, pens, staples, whatever the store is for) for not a penny more than 20, then leave for ever....

No matter who you give it to, you're "promoting the store". Maybe you could go to the store, find someone shopping there who looks nice and give it to them. Random acts of kindness are always nice, and they're already shopping there anyway...

You could give it to a homeless person or donate to charity. Just a thought.....
THere is always the option of sending it back and telling them that $20 isn't enough for the suffering you were put through. But then the question would be...How much is that worth?
Good luck in whatever you decide....

Try selling the gift card for $15. Otherwise, break it and move on :-(.
