Depends on what that 1/2 amount of food consists of.
What if it were 100% Lard, woudn't be very good, even though the amount were 1/2, right?

Try reading the book in the reference below, it's about the body's engine and I've found it useful.

Short run, yes. Long run, no. Your body will go into survival mode and as soon as you start eating regularly again, BAM! you gain all the weight right back. Hit a gym, sorry, but it's the only way.

it depends. how much are you eating right now? are you eating crappy food? if you cut crappy food by 1/2, it's still not going to be healthy. if you are dead set against doing exercise, then eat HEALTHIER! eat smaller portions of healthy food!

I find using a carving knife works well.
