i have sa & i would say yes. because its hard to go thru sa & be isolated.

I assume you mean Social Phobia rather than social anxiety but maybe not. If that's so it's not merely a new term for shyness, it's far more extreme and can affect your life alot. It's an anxiety disorder that can be diagnosed by shrinks so it's hardly just being shy. I know because I have it. Anyway now that ranting is through I agree that having a social phobia means you're much more likely to have depression because of what it does to your life. Yet they're exclusive to each other and you can have one without the other. I myself have had social phobia for most of my life but have only had depression a few times.

Often the two appear in the same person although having one diagnosis doesn't automatically mean that the other will be present as well. Social anxiety can predispose one to depression and often they are two sides of the same coin. One feeds the other. It is more likely that someone with social anxiety disorder will also have depression and far less likely that one who has depression will also have social anxiety.
