It would make it alot easier to get into a gas station. Like the older cars were all in the rear. Makes sense to me. Any reasons why not all on same side?

It's not just he German automakers though. Although they do seem to have them all on the same side?

I did delte the other question. It was a typo and I couldn't correct the question. You make some sense anyway.

The hoses where I come from, do not let you stretch across the car to enable you to fill from either side. So, If filler necks were all on the same side you would have a one way entrance to the pump, and exit from the pump.

first of all why dont you delete your other question where you said cant's instead of cant

there dont seem to be any rule
I would think it would be a bit safer to put the filler neck on the passenger side (for the driver, anyways)
It is a longer walk for the driver then but it might lead to them seeing a low tire or something on the passenger side that they normally might never see.

my 68 datsun 510 has it on the passenger side and I put an arrow sticker on the gas gauge so I know how to enter a gas station

77 toyota corolla and 92 tercel as well as 63 chevy pickup are all on driver side

it would make the traffic in gas stations easier if it was uniform, then cars wouldnt end up face to face and have to back out

There is 1-way traffic even at the gas station. You enter by the "In" entrance and leave by the "Out" exit.

If all cars have their tank openings on the same side, half of the pumps cannot be used (the pump islands have pumps on both sides). It would be more expensive to have 1-sided pumps especially where underground storage tanks are concerned -- they would have to be spread over a larger area.

Double-sided pumps can cater to more vehicles at less cost.

It doesn't matter. The hoses are long enough to reach, no matter WHICH side the cap is on, (where I live).

You will queue for miles to buy your fuel.
