I have noticed that many Christians on this forum when asked a question, spout off the apostles creed or just answer with JESUS IS THE ONE! Well I believe the apostles creed, and I believe Jesus is the one, but I don't think people need to be preached at, thats what gives Christianity a bad name half the time. Is there a reason people do this preaching method that I don't understand? Or am I right in thinking that answering questions with "Jesus Rocks" doesn't make a full answer?

I think I better add this: I am a Christian. Completely. I just don't think that when Jesus said to go out and preach to all nations He meant for us to force it down peoples throat without considering their opinions. I feel we have to honestly answer people in a sincere, non-generalized way. Sometimes preaching shouldn't be done through words, but through actions, or just being kind and considerate on forums like this. Although I do feel a lot of people have answered this question well and have made me think. Those of you who feel I don't have Jesus in my heart, you are wrong, I just don't go about it so bluntly all the time.

I wouldn't say all christians do that here since many do ask questions about christian rock band or other things. But those 'preachy' questions/answers are better noticed and remembered by people.

Jesus did say go out into all the world and "preach" the Gospel to every living thing. However what many of us do not see is that we are to disciples first. This fact is important in that we are to teach (preach) the principles laid in the Bible and to practice them as well. We should always look at Jesus as our example he preached what He did. He gave a reason bases on firm Biblical foundation for what he said and did. He got people to reason by asking questions and illuminating the Gospel

It is when we cannot give a credible answer or when we are not true disciples that we follow the flesh and preach where we should not or say "Jesus Rocks"

"Be quick to listen and slow to Speak" - James
"Even a fool can be counted wise when his mouth is shut" - Proverbs

God Bless

The problem with Christians (or any collective group advocated by individuals) is that they use the words 'many' or 'all' or 'most'.

When you move past individual recognition into generalization, you commit the 'sin' of judgement, and this goes for everyone including me. If you are a follower of Jesus, it should be about being an individual.

This means that some individuals will be more 'public' about their calling, while others will be more private. Not every apostle went out after Jesus and spoke to hundreds and hundreds of individuals, or traveled extensively.

Why, as a Christian, did you feel the need to 'preach' about those who 'preach'. If you look up the word 'preach' online you will find the following definitions:

1 : to deliver a sermon
2 : to urge acceptance or abandonment of an idea or course of action; specifically : to exhort in an officious or tiresome manner
transitive verb
1 : to set forth in a sermon
2 : to advocate earnestly
3 : to deliver (as a sermon) publicly
4 : to bring, put, or affect by preaching

One does not have to simply spout off the Apostle's Creed to be 'preachy'. Everyone, including me, commits the sin of "urging the acceptance or abandonment of an idea or course of action." Where it becomes truly a problem is when that urging denies the right of others to be who they are. What is right for one is not right for another.

If you have a problem with your 'brother', address it to your brother. If they refuse to be reconciled, bless them and be on your way.

There is a delicate line between "informing" & "preaching." There's much to learn from both sides of the aisle, accepted or not, but I doubt anyone wants to scroll through page after page after page of scripture. It is also presumptuous to claim "My god is the only god"--accuse nonbelievers of horrid things &TELL them they're going to hell--oh yes, with a footnote: "We love you & God bless you." Atheists have posted very nasty little comments, but one thing I've noticed--they do NOT attempt to convert. (Nor do Buddhists, which I find interesting.) If someone asks a sincere & civil question about Christianity, it deserves an answer, not a sermon.

I once was a non believer and I know that it's so bad. God said to us to speak to all around about Him...may He help us do this, and all those that need THE WORD to understand it and to come to Him, to LOVE!
Forgive us if you don't feel like reading about God! HE loves you and us, too!

If You were a Christian, you would know we are told to spread the Holy Word, which is Jesus.
