If you try and teach a dog arithmetic / math, it will never comprehend no matter what you do or how long you try; the dog will just simply never comprehend.

What if we just simply aren't built to comprehend the purpose of the Universe or how it was created? What if we are limited to learn about the Universe just as dogs are limited to learn Arithmetic?

Ever thought of that?

Very good point by Ana. Can we pictures or grasp the concept of Infinity? Can we grasp the concept of this Infinite Universe? Try. All it does is confuse us, hence the metaphor of a Dog trying to learn Arithmetic.

I'm not saying it's true. I'm just saying it's possible. Thanks for everyone's insight.

"The dog was created with a dog-life. He does dog things. He will never have the ability to do what only man can do."

Exactly. We are not God. We will never have the ability to do what he can do or understand the way God understands the universe.

As we move up from species to species, the level of understanding and consciousness increases. We are not the highest form of life or energy, God is. So what gives us the ability to understand the Universe?

God is a higher supreme life form. We are not like him. Just try and create a planet full of life if you think you are anywhere near how he is.

I don't think that's a good comparison....humans are capable of comprehension of such things.

The universe is finite, and we are in principle capable of comprehending every part of it. There are some experiments which are impractical to perform, so in practice some questions may remain unanswered for a time, but as the theoretical background improves, even these should become more amenable to scrutiny. Which brings up a comparison between a religious and a scientist. When confronted with an unknown phenomenon, the religious will say, "God did it, and the reasons are beyond my understanding." The scientist will say, "How very interesting! Now, how did that happen?", and study the situation until he figures it out.

I think as spiritual beings are made to comprehend it, yet while we are living on this fleshy earth most of us can not. Sure there are a few that do, just like some dogs are smarter than others.

I have had a dog that just panted and jumped up and down continuously, and was un-trainable, yet I have also had a couple dogs that were very smart. Teach them once and they understand, some times I swore they were like a person and with giving them a certain look would "obey" an unspoken command. Just personal experience.

Consider the difficulty we have in controlling our thoughts. For instance, some people can't stop thinking about sex, and others can't stop thinking about chocolate. The mind is a powerful instrument, and one that as humans we still have not come close to figuring out. I think it would be a good starting point in trying to figure out God and the universe. Even if there are limitations in the human capacity to understand, that does not mean that we should not try. For instance, we may not be able to diet perfectly, and may forget the diet a few times, but if we go back on it, we will still lose the weight.

Every man/woman is created with a God-shaped vacuum that only God can fill. Some try to fill this vacuum with pleasure, or making money, or making a name for themselves. Whatever man does in his attempt to fill the God-shaped vacuum (Some call this vacuum our heart, others call it our human spirit.), he/she comes to discover that only God can quench the thirsty, only God fits this spot in our being. It is like a glove is made for the hand. Our heart/spirit is made for God.

Your example of the dog is interesting, but we are talking apples and oranges. The dog was created with a dog-life. He does dog things. He will never have the ability to do what only man can do.

On the other hand, you, my friend were created "capable" to receive the life of God. It is not difficult or hard. With a simple, sincere, honest heart, ask Him to come live in you. "I receive you as my personal Savior". Will you?

What a stretch!!! If you belive that God gave you a brain which was capable of learning more than it was taught as a child, that it had the capability to solve problems that the elders never considered......invitro fertilization, cloning, global warming, space travel, gee I don't know. Maybe I should just stay in the kitchen & keep my mouth shut!

It's possible that this is true.

What would be the implications of this assertion, though? It implies no malice on the part of the Creator, nor does it really limit our potential, as far as I can tell.

God bless.

The fleshly man is not but we get our self BORN AGAIN by receiving his spirit and then we can comprehend it because we now have the spirit of the living God inside us revealing how and why he does everything!

I totally agree. There are things which are just above us. like Is the universe finite? And if it is finite what is beyond it? And if it is not finite, how can we grasp the concept of infinity. In my opinion, we don't need to understand God. We need to believe in Him.

Why would God not want us to know about him when he created us? Of course he wants us to know him and love him. He gives us The Church, the scriptures and the Pope to lead his flock to understanding of Christ.

Its possible. But what if we are capable of it. Why not give it a shot. If we never find out; all well, it happens. But if we do, it will have been well worth the effort.
