i am asian and a high school sophomore. i've been dying my hair brown since 6th grade (so that's about 5 times) until half a year ago.
i dyed it jet black, but now it's wearing off... (and i used Loreal's permanent dye)

should i dye it again? i haven't dyed it in 1/2 year.
i always use loreal or garnier... i kno that all dyes are somewhat harmful... but any ideas?

thankx ^^

Up to now, some research has indicated that using hair dye may lead to increased risk of bladder cancer, while other research has suggested it doesn’t. Some of the research has considered different types of dyes and others haven't. Some studies have probably been too small to show up any small increase in risk. In the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) May 2005, there was a large meta analysis published that looked into all the research on hair dyes causing cancer. A meta analysis is research that pulls together all previous study results. This has found that there is unlikely to be any link between hair dye use and bladder cancer.

A study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology in 2004, focusing only on non Hodgkin's lymphoma, suggests that long term use of dark hair dye may slightly increase your risk of developing non Hodgkin’s lymphoma. But the researchers say these findings don’t prove that colouring your hair causes cancer. The study points out that there could be an increase in risk for people who used hair dyes before 1980. A lot of hair dyes made before 1980 contained chemicals that were known to cause cancer in mice. Since 1980, hair dyes have changed dramatically and many no longer contain these cancer causing chemicals (carcinogens).

Hairsalons have the lest damaging hair dye. Get it from a beauty supply store but if u are gonna do drugstore hairdye the least damaging is loreal feria. I dye my hair black every 3 months to keep the color vibrant. U can try a color glaze that will boost your color now and make hair shinier and is less abrasive than dying your hair

Yes all box dyes are kinda damaging, but asian hair is pretty coarse and can take a lot more damage than most other hair types. If you want to do black or dark brown go for it. Anything lighter and you'll want to go to a proffessional.

Boxed hair dye you get in a drug store have no idea what hair type you are starting out with. You need to condition your hair and at least go to a hairdresser and ASK THERE PROFESSIONAL OPINION! A hairdresser will usually at least tell you there honest opinion if it is a good idea or not depending on the condition of your hair.

well its a known fact that hair dyes do cause some damage to the hair especially if done often. i would leave dyeing of the hair come the time when your hair has strands of white. coz then you'll surely be doing it all the time. however if you still want to dye your hair, then treat it with hair spa's once a week.

Yes but use semi permanent haircolour.

It does no damage to the hair, and conditions it, yet still has the same effect as a permanent haircolour.

Go to a salon, dying it your self with store brand will damage your hair. Let them dye it to your original color and add natural lights. You'll look great!

Truly your best bet is to seek advice from a professional. It is impossible for anyone to give good advice without seeing your hair, feeling it and evaluating it's health and condition. A professional can do this and will often offer a complimentary consultation. Additionally, a professional cosmetologist is educated and licensed to perform such tasks where you are not. You are safest to seek a pro's advice... in person.

Please, for the health of your young, lovely hair... see a licensed stylist in your area!
