i have to go with the pittbull terrier. despite the rumors they are fun loving dogs, they have all the good characteristics you would want in a dog, like good watchdog, good with children, smart, easy to train, playfull, and loyal.

in no particular order...Boxer, Boston Terriers, French Bulldogs. All three breeds are great family pets, excellent with children, easy to train and are very smart animals. The boxers are more imposing than the other two, simply because of their size difference, the French bulldog being smaller and squattier, and the Boston being even smaller still. I have owned all three breeds and have had nothing but fantastic experiences and memories with them. Currently, I have a 6 month old female French Bulldog, she is about 18 pounds right now, and probably wont get much past 20-22lbs when fully mature. They are very cool dogs.

I love Shelties and German Shepherds! I think they are the best of both worlds! One is big and has short hair, the other small and long hair. They both are great with kids, good watchdogs, smart, easy to train (generaly), playful and loyal. If anyone want's to look into these breeds, here is my aunt's Web site.

Take a look. She is a breeder. But never ask her to ship her puppies.

My favorite is the Basset Hound. Very sweet, loyal and good to kids. Its a little smelly though but I love them just the same.

I love Jack Russells because they are very loyal and energetic. Both breeds are complete opposites but what the heck? I love dogs! =)

My Jack Russell Terrier, Louie, is a blast. He's smart but loves to have fun and has limitless amounts of energy. He also only barks when he hears or smells something out of the ordinary. He's everybody's friend and very loving.

I have 2 pugs and I love them. My brother and I got an Old English Sheepdog when I was 5 and she was an awesome dog too, she died when i was 21 and now my dad has another one. My mom always had Golden Retrievers when I was younger and they are great too. So those are my 3 favs.

Pits are great dogs for that. My fav is a German Shepherd though. They are extremely smart (therefore easy to train), very energetic and they are very good for protecting the family. Mine actually attacked a wolf when it got too close to me. He is my guardian angel :)

I'll agree with you about pittbulls...they are great family dogs when trained correctly.
I, however, love love love black labs! They're so sweet, kind and loving...can't get enough. They have to be male though..females can get VERY neurotic..

My favorite breed is golden retrievers, followed by labs. I was given a chow as a present, not knowing anything about them, and now I know there are many wonderful and unique things about them. Chows are soooo loyal (like pits) and it is obvious they love you most. They are very protective and so very beautiful!
