Well it is always good to pray for the people in purgatory now, for someday someone may pray for us. CCC 1498 Through indulgences the faithful can obtain the remission of temporal punishment resulting from sin for themselves and also for the souls in Purgatory.
1475 In the communion of saints, "a perennial link of charity exists between the faithful who have already reached their heavenly home, those who are expiating their sins in purgatory and those who are still pilgrims on earth. between them there is, too, an abundant exchange of all good things." In this wonderful exchange, the holiness of one profits others, well beyond the harm that the sin of one could cause others. Thus recourse to the communion of saints lets the contrite sinner be more promptly and efficaciously purified of the punishments for sin.

After a person dies he or she is asleep in death until Jesus resurrects them. Read John 5:28,29.
Genesis 2:7 says God form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul. You will note that this passage does not say the soul was created before the body. Neither does it say the soul was given to, or put into man. Nor does it say that the breath of life was the soul. Instead, it says that when man came alive, beginning to breathe, “man came to be a living soul.”
If you read Genesis 1: 20-24 you will see that animals and fish are considered as souls.
This means that the soul dies. Read Ezekiel 18:4
Also In the apostle John’s vision of God’s anger “every living soul died, yes, the things in the sea.”—Rev. 16:3.
The notion of the soul surviving after death is not scriptural.

The bible doesn't say there is a purgatory. The bible only state there is a heaven and hell. Read Revelation 21:10-15 & 21:8, 1Thessalonians 4:13-18. there is no getting right beyound the grave. Give your heart to Jesus while you are alive, and read the word of God , and find a good bible teaching church tthat will teach you the true word of God. Don't take that change on your soul.

First off, where in the world do you come up with the teachings of Purgatory? It's not mentioned in the bible, new or old. It's something that the Catholics conjured up for who knows what reasons.
I used to be a Catholic. I wore the Brown Scapular because I wanted Mary to pray for me. Then, I got to thinking: By praying to her and not to her son, that was undermining and disrespecting Yeshua.

There is no mention of purgatory in the Bible. It is a catholic invention.
Remember what Jesus said to the thief on the cross.
Luke 23:43 Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, TODAY you will be with me in paradise."
Death is inevitable. The thief on the cross knew when his would occur, but we can not predict our own. After his death, the crucified criminal went to live in paradise with Jesus. Some of us will also live eternally in God's presence. But others will experience everlasting torment, forever separated from Him.
If we receive Jesus as our Savior, our penalty for sin is paid. We are adopted into God's family, and Heaven is our eternal home. If we reject Jesus, we remain alienated from the Lord and under condemnation for our sin. We are destined to experience eternal judgment. God won't accept any of man's excuses because there is no acceptable defense for unbelief. (Acts 4:12)
Become part of God's family today. Acknowledge your sinfulness, and express your faith in these words:
"God, I have sinned against You. (Romans 3:23) I've followed my own way and refused to give You the right to rule in my life. (Romans 3:10-12) I recognize I am separated from You and cannot rescue myself. I do believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son. I accept the truth of the Scriptures? that His death on the cross paid my sin-debt in full. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) And I ask You to forgive me of my sins. (1 John 1:9) By faith, I receive You, Lord Jesus, as my personal Savior from this moment on."
If you just spoke those words to God, then, like the thief on the cross, you have received salvation? a gift of God's grace. The heavenly Father welcomes every person who comes to Him through His Son, regardless of background, age, or current situation. Through Jesus, the right to enter paradise is yours!

If you have a loved one who was saved, then you have no need to worry about them suffering in Purgatory after they die.
Purgatory implies that Jesus' blood sacrifice and atonement for our sins somehow falls short and is not enough. Jesus died to pay the penalty for ALL of our sins. The idea that we have to suffer for our sins after death is contrary to everything the Bible says about salvation. Jesus suffered for our sins so that we would not have to. Remember what He said to the theif on the cross:
Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, TODAY you will be with me in paradise." -Luke 23:43
He did not say, "I tell you the truth, you will be with me in paradise after you spend a little time being purged of your sins in Purgatory because my sacrifice isn't going to be enough for you."
Also consider these verses: "Once you were alienated from God... But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you HOLY in his sight, WITHOUT BLEMISH and FREE FROM ACCUSATION" -Colossians 1:21-22
We are made righteous in God's sight only through Jesus's blood sacrifice for us - not through good works and not by having people pray for us after we die. We cannot earn our way into Heaven. It's only through Jesus.
Also, read Hebrews 10:9-25

The church used to sell 'indulgences' - coupons for taking so many days off the stay in purgatory. Unfortunately, they've stopped.
(Think I'm kidding? I'm not!)

Read Revelations, it explains some of your question. After the physical death souls are placed in different places, probably by Angels. Jesus parable explains that. The weeds are gathered and placed in bundles, the wheat placed in his barns. then after the judgment those found wanting/not in book of life, are cast into the lake of fire/deep fat fryer. Revelations explains, Death, Hades, abyss, sea of life probably place of slumber, Hell, After death and hades give up the dead in them then their thrown into the lake of fire to add to their pain.

Up or down, heaven or hell...to say that there is an in between is as ridiculous as believing you have the power or control to make a soul go either way!

I dont believe in Purgetory, but if there is one, shouldnt we trust God's judgement? Do we think that we know someone better than He does and His judgement might be wrong?
