... condemned at the age of reason, but heaven bound before that time? One day heaven, the next day hell? Where is the good in allowing free will?

I'm not an authority on this issue, because I'm an atheist myself. But think of it this way: all babies are atheists. They do not believe in God, so they are "without theism": a-theism. Indeed, at a young age, babies don't in believe in the existence of other people. They are solipsists as well as atheists. And I think I should point out that there is nothing in the Bible that mentions an age of accountability. You might not believe me, since I'm an atheist, so here's a Christian web site that discusses the issue, and admits that the doctrine of the age of accountability is based on human reasoning, not the Bible. It's based on the idea that God always does what is right. Here's the link: http://www.gotquestions.org/age-of-accountability.html

As an aside, I should say that the doctrine of the age of accountability has some nefarious consequences. It follows that if children will not go to hell if they die young, and have a possibility of going to hell if they get to the age of accountability, you should kill your children! That would be the ultimate sacrifice for a parent to make. Here's a story about a woman who drowned her children, convinced that she was sending them to heaven:

Ideas do have consequences. Think about this issue carefully.

It's not like atheists live in a forrest. When the child grows up, he can learn of religion and decide for himself weather he wants to be part of one or not. We have many example of children from religious families who became atheists when they grew up, so I don't see a problem there. Of course, if the child dies young, before being aware of the world, he will not go to hell just because his parents were atheists and never taught him differently

Unless the child hears and is taught the truth and rejects it, He is saved. If an adult never hears of the Savior or his message, he is saved. We are not judged on any thing but what we our selves know. Or the knowledge we ourselves possess!!

I heard that in the end of time when Jesus comes down to take the true christians all the children go with, so I guess they are saved.
