Of course. Humans have been eating bread for thousands of years without a problem. Beer is produced by yeast as well. Besides, your stomach acid digests food stuffs rather well.

What these people don't seem to know is after yeast is exposed to a temperature of over 120 degrees F, it DIES. You can still have yeast in unpasteurized beer. Mostly when you cook with yeast though it will be killed in the cooking process. It is a living microbe that feeds on sugar and excretes CO2. That is what makes bread rise is the CO2. Also it is inhibited by salt. There is wild yeast on alot of things that you would eat raw though like grapes, apples, other fruits. You should always wash fruit to get the majority of it off but you can't get it all off.

Fungi are not bad to consume unless they are toxic - people eat many kinds of fungus, such as portabello mushrooms. Yeast is not toxic, and thus has no negative effect on you. Since yeast is used in the production of most bread, you've probably been consuming it all your life, and you're still alive, aren't you?
I wouldn't just sit there eating plain yeast, though. It tastes terrible and would probably give you gas.

Yeast is actually a living organism, not a fungus. Yeast enhances the fermentation process in foods like bread and beer.

Ever have a beer? - a real beer, not that pasterized stuff by Bud - but say a microbrew. Chock full of yeast. Bread? Chock full of Yeast. Saurkraut? Ditto. No, its not bad for you, unless you have an immune disorder that would dictate that you shouldn't have it. And that "yeast connection? throw it out - you have a yeast problem when they can take a culture and find it. You dont have "latent" yeast just because you dont feel fabulous all the time.

Sure. Once its cooked, the fungus is dead, anyway. Mushrooms are fungus, cheese is cream that has been exposed to fungus, yogurt is cream with bacteria cultures in it..
There are millions of bacteria living in your body, and on your skin right now, and they don't hurt you.. in fact, you'd die without them. Just because something is a fungus or a bacteria dosen't mean that its bad!

It depends on the yeast.
"Red Star® nutritional yeast is grown specifically for its nutritive value. In addition to protein, dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals, it contains additional functional and beneficial components such as beta-1,3 glucan, trehalose, mannan and glutathione. Studies have show that these components have potential health benefits such as, improved immune response, reduction of cholesterol, and anti-cancer properties. "
