Whenever I do touch it, it send a shooting pain through my stomach. There is crusting around the jewelry.
I'm afraid to take it out, because I've read that the infection can seal up inside your body.

I've had this piercing for about 4 months.. does anyone know what's wrong with it?

It is infected already. Clean the area with peroxide or alcohol. Make sure you buy the right type of peroxide, not the hair lightening type, that is too strong.

WHile you are in the drug store/pharmacy already to buy the peroxide, buy a tube of over the counter antibiotic such as polysporin or polymyxin as well. After you clean the area, and the navel ring , put the ointment on the area including the ring. pull the ring through the skin as well.
If it does not improve in one day, go to the doctor.

I would remove it immediately and apply an antibiotic ointment, such as Neosporin and keep that going. If you notice an increase in redness and no improvment, get to your doctor immediately. And please, drop the body piercings. They are dangerous as you now know.

I think it's pretty obvious that it's infected. I would take it out, clean it with rubbing alcohol or peroxide, and see a doctor.
