In many places it is illegal to own or wear a bullet proof vest normally; unless you are a member of a specific group identified by law. These groups would include, but are not limited to, police; firefighters (needed in many high risk areas); EMT's and paramedics, etc.
In other localities it is illegal to wear a vest in the commission of a crime versus wearing it normally. The only set answer is to check your local statutes, ordinances and state laws. There could be a law addressing this issue at any of the three levels of government with jurisdiction over where you live.

Depends on the state. New York, Ca, Pa, and a few others do consider it illegal. Check local laws. In today's society I actually think it's a good call. It's not like it is an offensive devise...
Oh yeah research your vest. Ceramics can only take 2 hits b4 becoming ineffective, plates are heavy, kevlar is save by degrees, and a new stuff called "dragonskin" is great-but too expensive.

It very well could be.
Most states have a criminal rider, if you wear a vest when you commit a crime, it will be considered illegal and add to your prison term.
Also, some localities do have bulletproof vests as illegal
Also if your a felon, you are not allowed to possess body armour.

No, it isn't. But there is no such thing as a 'bullet proof' vest, only bullet resistant. They use Kevlar on the interior. It can stop most bullets of a small caliber, but there are some that do penetrate.

Nope. Its not illegal but it may be seen as probable cause for search. People dont tend to just wear body armor for no reason.

This varies by state.
Some states may have no restrictions while others require a permit based on demonstrated necessity.

Maybe to court or a visit to your probation officer.. They would start wondering when the bullets are going to start flying. Still, not illegal.
