It stands for Reserve Officer's Training Corps.
I'm giving you what to expect if you join in HS. I'll also supply you with what to expect if you join in college.
Highschool: Junior ROTC is an elective high school course taught by military personnel at selected private and public high schools in the United States and its territories. Junior ROTC does not recruit students for military service.
The goal of Junior ROTC is to motivate young people to be better citizens. To accomplish this goal, it combines classroom instruction and extracurricular activities oriented on attaining an awareness of the rights, responsibilities, and privileges of citizenship; developing the student's (Cadet's) sense of personal responsibility; building life skills; and providing leadership opportunities.
In College: If you join ROTC in college; you've signed up to be a recruit and will be expected to go to war if needed. School can be paid for while in ROTC, but not all of your expenses. You can apply for scholarships while in your Sr. Yr. in HS or while in college.
Hope that helps.

Programs conducted by certain colleges in cooperation with the United States Air Force, Army, and Navy. Naval ROTC includes the Marine Corps (the Coast Guard and Merchant Marine do not sponsor ROTC programs). Local recruiting offices of the services themselves can supply detailed information about these programs, as can participating colleges.

Reserve Officer Training Corps- It is used to mold model men and women into US Military officers. They can give you great money for college, but they expect you to serve when you're done with school.
If you're looking to join them go see your local Officer Recruitment Officer (DO NOT GO TO A REGULAR RECRUITER!!! They will promise you the world and college and the like but ROTC is a better program!)

It's a military officer training program. If you're not in shape now, you will be after a few weeks.
