to treat children and infants? like do checkups on them and everything else doctors do.

Children are completely different than adults .They have a whole different degree of Development than adults have- also Nutrition is different, behavior is different, diseases are different, response to medications are different, to name just a few "differences"
Chiildren are not just "little adults".
Now there are family Doctors who try to manage children -do regular check ups, etc, - but for any "child ' who has any sort of medical condition (and that includes most children) a parent should take him/her to a Pedatrician

(nothing to do with bedside manner or preventing lawsuits-- its better care-- would you want a Dr. who specializes in geriatrics or heart attacks take care of a 2 day old?)

Lawsuits are why, doctors now specialize in each field, the insurance companies have help change this, it may not be the best way but it is the cheapest way.

regular doctors dont' have the expertise that baby doctors have and its best to see the specialist.

children are diff. than adults. i also think that childrens doc.s tend to have much better bedside manner than most reg. doc.s

As far as I know, you can take your child to your general practitioner. I did.
