Yes, there is a tiny chain of 4 or 5 stores near where I live...it is called Java J's. One of its locations competes head-to-head with Starbucks and actually does a greater amount of business.
You can visit their website at:

Oh yes, a wonderful little coffee house where they do there own roasting and serve a wonderful cup of Kona coffee. J & S coffee shop in St. Paul, Minnesota. We live a few blocks away and in the morning we can smell the freshly roasted coffee in the air, almost like a calling card to get our morning fix.

I enjoy Small World Coffee. Some of the local bagel places carry their coffee, too. It's a pretty intimate and hip place, in an invy school college town. They post pictures on their walls of people wearing their T-shirts all over the world.

Yes, I don't like Starbucks, even though there are 7 in town. I like a little mom and pop place called ABC Bakery. It's only 3 blocks away.

I don't know about their regular coffee... but their blended drinks are to die for.... great pick me up with a very very pleasant taste :)
