No, I don't mean environmentally friendly---the entire display is green. I have tried degaussing, turning it off and on and moving speakers away from it. This is not the type of discoloration one normally sees in the corners of the screen; it is an even, green, tint covering the whole screen. Needless to say it is a CRT, Mitsubishi, 35 in. about 10 years old.

Thanks for all of the answers, so far. But none is quite helpful. I tried the degauss feature on the TV and it worked for a short period of time---about 5 minutes. Call me old skool, but I don't think that 10 years old is too old for a television; it should be fixable.

The tv receives only three types of video signal which are one of the most important for decoding these are syncronising signal, video signal and sound signal. The video signal consist of red, green, blue, luminance and hue. The green signal is in more proportion then compared to red and blue.
The problem with your is that a very strong magnetic field was created near the screen of your that caused the green electron beam to focus on your screen as it more in concerntration. This problem can not be overcomed as the tv's crt deflection system have damaged and needs to be replaced.

ok dude !
i think the "pre sets" which r placed at the back of picture tube, used to adjust the screen colour are malfunctioning.
if u know little bit of electronics then try replacing them. i m dam sure that this will solve the colour.
you can also adjust them with the help of screw driver.
if this funda dosn't work then ur picture tube might be faulty.
bye.,....

It's because of the Display lamp, it's ruined and needs to be repaired. Ours once had become like that, we got it repaired and it's alright now, ours is maybe 20 years old or even older! ;)

The red lazes in the tubes may be dead. If so it must be thrown away.
