I have naturally black hair, and I would like to dye it, but I don't want to damage it with bleach.

All haircolor that can lighten black (and I mean true black, not just a darker brown) hair has some level of bleach in it, as black hair cannot be lightened to any degree without it. (I have black hair and have discovered this the hard way.) If you try using a boxed brown haircolor at home, it won't show up. If you try to buy a very light boxed dye in hopes of lightening your hair (and these shades do contain bleach) then your hair will turn an odd shade. You can reduce the damage done to your hair by simply choosing not to go very light with your haircolor. (i.e. a chocolate brown as opposed to a golden brown or blonde) The darker you choose to keep your hair, the less amount of bleach will be necessary to get it that shade. A little bit of bleach isn't the end of the world for a person's hair though. Many women color their hair (a vast majority of the colors contain some level of bleach) and still have healthy, beautiful hair. You'll just need to start using the appropriate shampoo/conditioner and taking a few extra measures to keep your hair hydrated.

Try natural dyes. if you want to go blonde, mix lemon juice with a conditioner or silicone serum(to prevent dryness)-any brand from Garnier to Matrix. Leave it on for like 15 minutes and voila! For red, try henna dyes, they're semipermanent and won't damage your hair at all!
