Hi Sarah. It is important to understand that "IBS" is NOT a diagnosis. Rather, it is a label given to patients with chronic bowel symptoms that the doctor does not know how to 'explain'.

You may want to find a good medical doctor (rare), Naturopathic Physician, Chiropractor with special training in nutrition, or Certified Clinical Nutritionist to help you find the CAUSE of your 'IBS' symptoms.

Some causes than M.D.s rarely look for include:
1) Celiac Disease (gluten-sensitive enteropathy)
2) Intestinal Dysbiosis (imbalance of the types of bacteria living in your gut)
3) Small Bowel Bacterial Overgrowth
4) Leaky Gut Syndrome (Intestinal Hyperpermeability)
5) Food allergies/intolerances
6) Heavy metal toxicities (e.g. mercury, arsenic, etc.)

Best wishes and good luck.

Do you mean, 'do to get rid of pain' ?
IBS is really a spastic intestinal issue so small doses of a non-gassy fiber can be tried.
Do NOT get Metamucil (it ferments in people with IBS)
Try Citrucel, small doses (1 small spoon stirred in water) every 8 hours. This should gradually get your system back in sync and eliminate the bloating / gas & pain.

Change your diet. Eat more fiber. Drink lots of water. Keep a food diary and track which foods it is that trigger your attacks. De-stress. Exercise. Cut out the caffeine.
