The ingredient in cold medicines that helped incontinence was removed several years ago. My vet had recommended it as the cheapest way to go, for my elderly Great Dane, who had become incontinent during her sleep. After that, I got tablets from the vet containing the same ingredient, they are quite inexpensive.

I have an incontinent dog...she has to take a daily pill but it is prescribed. What does cold medicine have to do with helping a dog hold it's urine?

The medication your thinking of was used as a weight loss supplement many years ago, but was found not to be safe for humans, so it is no longer available OTC. It is still available by prescription thru your vet, which is the correct way to obtain a medication for your pet. Not only is it morally wrong to make a decision based on no medical training or knowledge, but here in the states it is ILLEGAL to diagnose, treat or prescribe medicine to any animal (even your own) with out a veterinary medical liscence.

Do you even know what the word incontinent means?
Trust me it's nothing an OTC cold pill will treat.

Do not use any OTC medications on your animal unless your vet has prescribed them for you. Why would you give a cold medicine for a dog that can't control its urination?

Call a vet, don't self-prescribe for your dog. You could make him REALLY sick. Please be careful!
