Toyota 4-cylinder engines are exceptionally efficient and powerful enough for the requirements of an average driver. Aside from being able to go faster from 0-60, the impact on day to day driving and especially high-way driving would be minimal.
If you absolutely need to be able to get onto the highwy on ramp fast, or feel the need to peel off at a green light, go for the V6, but you will sacrifice fuel economy for the bigger engine and even more so when you peel off to get to the next stop light.
A 4 cylinder would be more than enough plus lower fuel costs, lower cost to repair, and a lower cost to purchase. Forget the bigger engine and use the $ for a better stereo with an MP3 hookup and add some aftermarket wheels.

The 6 is a better engine all across. Owned the 4 and traded it in for the 6. A 4 cyl with auto vs a v6 with a standard tranny get pretty close to same miles on tank of gas.I guess if you are only going for an inner city commute then the 4 may work for you. But if you plan on spending more than 15-20 min on an expressway get the v6.

I didn't know there was a V4, I've never ever seen one. If you were meaning the L4 however (inline 4)...the V6 has more power but also uses more gas, if this is just a little around the town, back and fouth from work I would go with the 4, but if you are going to be taking long highway trips or putting a lot of weight in it, i would go for the 6.

I'm an owner, I've test driven both versions of the RAV4. I chose the 4 cylinder because its still peppy and saves you money. If you want performance, go for the V6, it still gets really good mileage, but you'd have to pay extra (in terms of overall price and speeding tickets!)

get the 6!!! it gets the same gas mileage believe it or not.. well you might lose 1 mpg but thats it. its much smoother and the power is way better. also the resale will be a heck of a lot better and you will definitely get back the extra money you spent on the 6 down the road

Bigger engines don`t have to work as hard to propel the car so tend to last longer. Less RPM=more longevity.
