Hi,
I wanted to buy a PlayStation game that was no longer being sold in retail stores. So a bought a new copy off e-bay. It was sent from the UK to Australia. They are Pal like us.

I also bought a new extention ladder (fibreglass) thats retails for $1200.00 for $430.00

In most cases, after buying the item on the auction site and paying shipping, it's cheaper than buying it from the retailer. From my experience, if the item is $300 at the store, and you are buying it online for $250... you are better off buying it at the store that way if something is wrong you can just take it back, plus you walk out of the store with it rather than wait for it to be shipped.

Then again, there are some things you can find on an auction that you can't get in a store. Like used autos, real estate listings, used collectibles and other items.

First of all it would depend on whether the item is available through a retailer. If you are looking for something that is no longer made, out of stock or unusual, then you would most likely go to an auction site.
Also, sometimes at an auction site, the seller may have a surplus of the item and thus the buyer would be able to purchase it at less than cost.

Auction sites are often quite a bit cheaper than retailer sites, and the items obtained from them are quite often just as good for any practical purpose other than a mint-condition collection.

Another reason is that products are often bought on auction sites is that they can be found there long after the retailer has stopped producing them (I have obtained several old games this way).

The auction offers an opportunity to purchase the item at a cheaper price.

even if it may be the exact same price at a retailer people have become so addicted to ebay that it is the first place they go to buy an item and there is the percieved value of buying it from an auction site.

Because you might get the same item for a lot cheaper. I've seen stuff on retail $800 and ebay $100. So theres a lot of money to be saved if no one keeps uppin.

Well, from experience, I purchase from an auction site because it gives me the option to find items that are no longer in stock, or in use or no longer being made.

People like purchase it from the retailer, there are easy to return whatever they buy in case they don't want it. last i heard on fox news a girl buy a xbox on ebay for her boyfriend. She thought she was get a xbox, but No, It was just a picutre of the xbox for I think was about $800 0r $900. which was good deal if it was the realy xbox because the xbox was sold out. I think that's why.
