With kids that age, it can be hard to keep them occupied [as well as out of trouble!] and entertained at home. I would say that Chuck E Cheese's would be great. It used to be a tradition in my family for my birthday party's, plus there cake is great! It was always entertaining and it's set in an environment where they can let loose all that pent up energy that they can't really get out at home [without being punished for it]. I think it'd also make the party more memorable. They've got games, play centers as big as castles and photo booths where you can take a picture with a trademark mouse. What's more memorable than that for a four-year-old?
If you're wondering about keeping an eye on the boys, see if any older nieces or sisters of yours [or even a few of the boys mothers, if they're available for an hour or so] could stay awhile and help keep an eye on the boys. However, you shouldn't have a problem seeing as the place is generally well-staffed [it is after all a popular destination for the younger ones].
Either way, hope the party's a success, and I wish your son a happy birthday! Hope lots of memories are made!

Good luck with all that it seems like a lot of hard work hopefully you will have some help. Chuckie cheese sounds good if parents are going to stay for that part at least and help. Growing up I pretty much had in home parties and i remember the places the most so if u have the money go for chuckie Cheese. Parents hate taking the kids there so if they get to go their there going to be happy and your kid would love it too.

Well, if it's a sleepover birthday party, I would have the party at your house. And since there are only five kids, I don't think you'd have to go crazy with the budget... a homemade cake, a carton of ice cream, a couple pizzas, maybe a video they can watch while you pop some popcorn, and you're all set.

If you do any games, you can keep them simple since they're so young... freeze dance or hide and seek would be fun. Prizes can be cheap. Maybe since it's a sleepover, some glow sticks or something that lights up that they can play with before they go to sleep.

Unless you have alot of patience and help I would keep the party at home.. No chucky cheese, its loud, expensive and the food sucks. Order some pizza delivery and rent some kiddie movies. Cake and ice cream pin the tail on the donkey. That kind of stuff but definately keep it under a 100 bucks 50 if you can do it. I would make the cake myself and buy party favors at the dollar store to keep it cheap. Good luck

Kids that young are pretty easy to please without spending a lot of money. We had a treasure hunt at one party, and a spy party one year. Probably these days they'd be happy (I wouldn't !) parked in front of a video game.
The pizza places are wild, loud, and hard to keep track of the kids.
But the kids love them. And you don't have to clean up.
Do you have a children's museum? We did bumper bowling one year. they liked that.
Costume parties are fun too.
Do you know the boys? I had a party for my daughter at that age and a few of the kids had never been away from their parents except at school. They seemed a little lost the first time and that was just a few hours! Good luck with an over night and hae a fun party.

You need to spend what you are comfortable with and what you are able to afford. Not worth it to go over board if its going to hurt the family as a whole.

I like chucky cheese...however watching and running after all the children and making sure everyone of them is safe at all times, involves more then one parent to supervise.

Best wishes
have fun!

Kids can easily be pleased and more and more common places are makin it easier with little or no clean up afterwards such as MacDonalds, AMC Theater, Build A Bear Workshop, Chuck E Cheese Etc.

Definitely keep it at home. Have you ever tried to keep your eye on five boys at Chuck-e-Cheese? I'd say near impossible.

At home things will be a lot easier, especially if you set some guidelines ahead of time. Things will flow much smoother that way.

home for sure! My son just had his 4th in oct. I went back to the basics. home made cake, Lolly bags and we had hot dogs for lunch! Didn't have a sleep over, my house is too small! If i had a sleep over id go for setting up a little tent in the lounge room with sleeping bags inside.

Games we played were...
boiled eggs on spoon races.
quoits (made from taped up pieces of hose)
pass the parcel
dance off
musical chairs
guess the animal
