Most pain relieving medicines and anti-inflammatory meds etc for dogs are cheaper than the same medicines used for humans.
I'd stop by a large pet store for some glucosamine and chondroitin supplements first of all and get a Vet for the pain medication.
Acetaminophen is bad for dogs.
Since he is 11, some people meds that most dogs may be able to take might not be good for him, so please see a Vet. Some are very reasonably priced.

Dogs (and especially cats) are very sensitive to aspirin, but it canb e used in very small doses. (an eighth of a baby aspirin every other day is usually enough). It is very important not to give too much, as it can cause them to bleed excessively.
Tylenol and other OTC medications are not suitable for pets. Your vet will probably prescribe you either low-dose aspirin or a non-steriodal anti-inflammatory, such as Rimadyl. She may take blood tests first to evaluate your dogs liver and kidney function.
The best thing to do is to take your dog to a vet and see what they recommend. If you want something for today, the very low dose of aspirin should be OK. If you give this to your dog and notice that he seems lethargic, has pale gums, bloody red stool, dark tarry stool or evident bruising, take him to an
ER immediately.

Please do not give your dog Tylenol. It can kill them. 1/2 an aspirin, I believe once a day is ok. I would call your vet as soon as possible and check with them. Most vets will give you advice over the phone about things like that but take your dog in for a check up as soon as possible as it could be something serious that can be fixed easily if caught early.

You can give your dog 1 regular buffered aspirin a more exact weight would help. DO NOT GIVE TYLENOL It is TOXIC in dogs and cats. Aspirin is relatively safe in dogs but they are much more sensitive the humans. Your vet can get him diagnosed and can offer other management options.

Ascripton. It is in drug stores beside all the other pain med's. Ascripton is a coated aspirin so it won't upset the dog's stomach. My Vet recommended Ascripton years ago.

Baby aspirin (81mg dose). Try to get it with the enteric coating, because that will be gentler on his tummy. When you go to the vet, ask about meds like Metacam and Rimadyl. My dog responded very well to Metacam, and I know Rimadyl is another popular arthritis medicine.

you can buy recovery or lakota k9 mx at the health food store. If you have a nutters health store they carry the pet line.My dog is 15 and has been on this for 3 years. When we put him on it he was getting very arthritic. Both products work well. They cost about 50.00 and the bottle lasts a month. The Lakota k9 mx comes in gel caps where the recovery is in loose powder form.
