This man claims that he could take out our whole army, saying what not send 50 or 100,000 men. That and that his "dogs are pining for the dead bodies of the American soldiers". WHAT IS GOING ON HERE!? This man what’s to keep fighting and with the way things are going I am getting really scared - not so much for us but for our soldiers that are there as well as the ones that have to go. I don't understand why this man wants to fight so badly. Does anyone understand his point of view? Please I want to understand what’s going on. Why does peace fell so much more distance now? Please comments concerns anything someone enlighten me.

He is an extremely religious man. Read chapter nine of the Holy Qu'ran and take it's writings literally. Most who claim themselves to be Christian do not take their Holy Bibles nearly as seriously as does this one man. In his mindset, to fight for and die if need be, for his GOD is the greatest honor. He believes he is doing God's will and is trying desparately to rid the world of all that is evil. Namely, those who are not followers of Mohammad -- per chapter nine.

Supposedly the whole thing with Al Qaeda started when US troops were stationed in Saudi Arabia for the first gulf war. To the devout muslims this was unthinkable to have American troops on their holy lands, and this was the start of Bin Laden's fight with the US.. Some of those muslims can be pretty touchy IMO.

But the real roots probably have to do with Israel and the US support for it, as well as general fear/distrust/jealousy of the US and its power and presence.

Similar to what "Doc" has said here, al-Zawahri is trying to use his extremist vision of Islam as a catalyst to draw more people to his cause. He is unshakable in his belief, and is trying to persuade other Islamic followers that he is right and gain their support in a war against America and other non-muslim countries.
