Eat nourishing food with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables being part of it. Chew each morsel at least 32 times. This will activate signal to the brain as soon as u have had enough. Besides this change in eating style, take regular light exercises and brisk walks every day. U will be able to gain/shed all extra weight gracefully and in a reasonable time span. No food or drink in between the food and not more than three meals a day, unless u r diabetic.

Diet: go to www.weightwatchers.com. For exercise, you can be fitted with a prosthesis that allows you to run if you want, but walking is fine. You lose 100 calories by walking or running a mile, it just takes longer to walk it. You can also find a gym with a cardio machine where you can use your arms only, or you can try rowing, which doesn't require you to use your legs a lot. Swimming is also pretty good and would take pressure off your leg.

You probably need something low impact, you could try water areobics, they are harder than they look but they will be easier on your joints. You could also try yoga and pilates since you can choose a difficulty level that will improve your muscle tone/ strangth while being comfortable.

Diet wise, is difficult to say. It all depends on your bodys chemistry and your lifestyle. Try to eat an equal prportion of fruits and vegetables daily, e.g. handful of fruit with handfull of veggies. Obviously stay away from anything with more than 5 un-natural ingrediants. Try to eat what is natural for you body. Stay away from prosessed foods ...good luck.

Eat healthy and general body exercise, swimming is good. Find out your blood type, from that you'll know what foods cause you to gain weight and you can avoid them. See a nutritionist, see a chiropractor, a trainer. Just see some health professionals who can work out a program based on your individual needs.

the best diet is no actual DIET, a diet is what one eats, its not a thing u go on, i suggest plenty of water, lean meats, whole wheat grains, fruits and vegetables and low fat dairy products, as for exercise there is lots that dont involve running.. u could walk, swim, stretching, using a ball...be creative!
