Just before you type the material to be bulleted, click one of the bullet buttons on the Formatting Toolbar -- numbered or symbol.

You can also type everything, select data to be bulleted, then click Format, Bullets & Numbering. You will get a dialog box. Select a style or numbered. After you select a style, the work "customize" darkens. Click this. Here, you can change the font, the bullet, and the amount of indentation. Take a few minutes and experiment with the settings to see what you like best.

If you later decide against bulleting, select the data, and click the lighter bullet button on the toolbar or Format, Bullets, None, o.k.
