I wouldn't think it would hurt you. It' might lend a stale-ish taste to the recipe though. I don't think I would cook with it. Instead, open the top of the box and sit it on the back of a shelf in your refrigerator....it will absorb food odors.

It absolutely will not hurt you from a food safety point of view. It just means that it will not be as effective after the expiration date.
Put it in an old refrigerator you are using for odor control and buy a new box. But there is no hurry.

baking soda and baking powder are very different. baking soda is just pure sodium bicarbonate. baking powder has sodium bicarbonate but it also has an acidifying agent and a drying agent. your cookies will probably be bitter because there wasn't any acidity to counter the baking soda. eating it won't hurt you, it'll just taste bad.

Baking soda is like $0.50 per box. Just some of your old baking soda down your sink with some lemon juice and buy a new box.

I don't know what kind of effects it could have, just that expiration dates are there for a reason.

it shouldn't hurt you, but it might not work so well... as you already know... stuff like that just isn't usually as good when it expires... sort of like eating expired chips or drinking expired pop. it isn't like eating rotten or moldy meat or veggies. i would buy a new box next time you visit the store... it isn't like it is that expensive...

It just won't work for baking or as a deodorizer. It won't hurt you though. Toss it out. It's useless.
