I use a heating pad & bio freeze, a deep heat cream. I wish you had said what part of your back. I have some sites for you these will give you a lot of ideas beside what I do. I'm chronic every disc in my back is ruptured. See below for all you need or want to know.

First, go and have the Dr. diagnose your problem. He needs to find out the source of the pain. However, ice packs help reduce pain. Also heating pads, and naproxen for infammation. You didn't mention why you have back pain, did you slip and fall, or have a bulging disc? Also, ask the Dr. about seeing a chiropractor. Good luck.
