You might want to see if your county mental health department has any suggestions. Look in the phone book, and see if you can find their number.
My guess is that they would be fairly aware of what sort of resources are out there, and could provide you with some possibilities to think about ??
And you are right : if she needs meds, there are programs that help you get them for free, if you don't have the money.
One other thing you might try is looking for the Bipolar advocacy group on Google. I bet you almost anything that there is one, and they also might be able to point you in some productive directions.
And yes : Having no idea where to start is not a good feeling, I know. If you can give the county folks a call......you are bound to feel a little better, simply from taking a step.

Since your problem is of financial nature, look into the
my simple card membership. The doctors and psychiatrists
on their network are contractually obligated to give members
up to 50% or more discount every visit. Look for the
mental health providers listed by zip code.

You are a good friend to look after your friends well being. You may want to call around most towns have clinics or mental health facilities that are free or take a minimal amount( depending on her income) to be seen.Start either on line or in your local phone book..And or ask these physicians that wont see her where they suggest she go to get the care she needs.

Several times you can get help or find some help through the county mental heath center. If your friend is going to hurt themselves or others you may see about getting them hospitalized. Which would then help before they let them out by find several places they could turn.
