i just don't get it. how will beleiving in a dead person bring you to heaven whereas if you don't beleive in him, you will go to hell?
why do people beleive in hell? i mean, isn't it a little unfair that catholic priests get to do whatever, but since they are beleivers in christ, they get to go to heaven? where a jew who has never sinned in his life goes to hell because he isn't christian?

this is after i read like 20 responses:
first off, don't tell me to read the bible before i ask a question. i've read both the old and new testament. both books have some very valueble lessons in them. both books have some stupid things in them.
the bible was NOT written by GOD, nor was it written by jesus. it was written by man. and when man wrote it, GOD wasn't sitting on his shoulder telling him what to write. it's a compellation of stories written to govern people morals.
I've gotten answers such as "cause the bible says so"
why are you living your life by a book written by some man thousands of years ago? don't you have your own mind capable of deciding for yourself what's right and what's wrong?
from Radio Flyer: "history is in the mind of the teller"
from some western i forget the title: "when legend becomes fact, print the legend"
why base your entire existance on this planet on a book some dude wrote thousands of years ago?

What about the Jew who not only has never sinned(they will say that everyone sins), but one who is prayerful and deeply religious? The Christians---most of them, anyway----will tell us that God ignores his prayers. What kind of God would ignore the prayers of any of His creatures simply because He didn't like the way he worshipped Him? It's absurd.
And they'd have us believe that He'd not only ignore the prayers of the prayerful religious Jew, but He'd ignore the prayers of the pious, highly moral Buddhist as well.
And these Christians wonder why so many people mock them. It isn't, as many of them say, because Jesus died on the cross. There isn't anything offensive about that. What's offensive is to tell pious, moral people of other faiths that God ignores their prayers and that they're going to suffer in hell for all eternity.
And the really odd thing is that so many of these Christians just don't seem to understand how offensive that is.

Firstly, according to Christians, Jesus isn't dead, just not in physical incarnation. Secondly, don't be fooled by people who say that they are Christians. What one says and what one is may be 2 different things. A Christian is someone who has given their life over to the care of Christ, and this is not visible to the human eye. Many wolves live in sheep's clothing. As for your questions about sin, everyone has sinned. In order for there to be perfect union, there must be no sin. Christ died so that the all mighty God could unite with human beings who were covered in sin. In order for the perfect union between God and man to occur, humans must have no blemishes. Have you ever been in love? If there is any tinge of distrust or doubt, the purity of the relationship is threatened. I don't know if you understand, but I've tried to explain it to the best of my ability. Hope you got something out of it. I think the biggest difficulty with Christianity is that there are so many people out who are claiming to be christians who have not turned their lives over to the care of God, which is a spiritual act, not an outward act. A person can go to church all his life and not be a Christian. Faith makes one a Christian, not his actions.

First off everyone sins I don't care what your religion is. When you put your faith in Jesus it gets you to heaven because he died on the cross for us. Even you. Secondly, he isn't dead, he arose and is waiting to come get his children when the time comes. We believe because the Holy Bible says it. Why do some people believe in evolution? Because some dumb a$$ said so. I am not catholic so I don't know about them but priests sin too. They can't save you or forgive you your sins. Only God can do that. He has a special place for jews. Read the bible before you come on here and get your facts wrong,.

Number one, it isnt about human logic and how we feel about things.
Its about God and his word and his will and his way.
You and I cannot "just believe" and put our faith in Jesus Christ. It has to be real in our hearts , not just our heads.
There are a great deal of people in this world that believe that because they answerd an alter call that they are somehow saved and can go back to their everyday life and live it how they please. This is simply not true and the book of Romans in the new testament explains this very well.
Now, God tells us to accept all of him or none of him, not just parts of him that we want to. There is no jew nor gentile that has never sinned in his or her life, and sinning is not what gets you eternity in hell. Rejection of God is what gets you eternity in hell.
We reject God in many ways, and one way that we reject him is saying that we believe in him, but living as the world and our own desires dictate and ignoring how Gods word tells us to live and honor and worship him.
Now, it is true that there is no other way to the father, but through the son, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Once you have accepted that and believe it, you will want to know all about what you have just done. You will feel compelled to read and obey and live Gods written word. Your life will change from the inside out, not from the outside in.
Life as God created it, is not fair, its about one very important choice. Live according to your thoughts and desires, or live according to Gods will for your life (submission).
So, with all that said, the Catholic priest, the evangelist and all us plain every day people do not "get" to do whatever and enter the kingdom of heaven. We read and re read Gods word and we strive to live by it, and when we make mistakes, we turn from that mistake, admit it to God, ask forgiveness from ones we have harmed and move on. If our hearts are full of our own desires, it will eventually show on the outside, no matter how we try to keep it secret and hidden from God, ourselves and others.
For if our hearts are full of ourselves, there is no room for God and we are not saved and not going to heaven.
You are not a Christian just because you walked up front during an alter call, you are a Christian when you become a follower of Christ.

things are jumbled around here. saying, " i have faith in Christ" and being a christian aren't the same thing. those priests will get their punishment and many of them will not go to heaven. many books have been written on this topic and i suggest you check some out at the local library. not much else to do in life. done with school? read a book now and then.

Hell is real...know how all the people got smoked in the old testament? Thats an example of G-d's judgement.
Jesus is a way to avoid the judgement and get the blessing. Its up to you. G-d made it such an easy choice cuz of his love for you.
Bless u
David

I agree with Inspector Free Thinker.
BTW: You're a perfect cadidate for an ulcer. I strongly suggest international travel--especially destinations of non-Christian settings such as many parts of Asia (particularly parts of India). You need to be guided in an eye-opening direction to centuries of beliefs before Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
Good luck, kiddo.

This link does a better job of explaining salvation than I could, given the limitations of this forum:

It addresses some of the key issues in good detail and provides links for further reading.

The idea is preposterous, as is the whole notion that God created Jesus for the purpose of convincing God to remit sins. That is just as silly as it sounds.
