I am planning on getting my first tattoo next month. I am 18 so it's legal and I know they are premant. I'm not looking for ignorant people saying they are evil and what about 50 years later ...

The tattoo I want is the chinese symbol for Dragon on my left forearm but closer to my wrist. Where is a safe spot to get it on your arm? How close can you go to the wrist befor risking hitting a major vein? I'm very pale ... and I don't want to use bright colors, it will be small and probably in gray so that the black wont make my paler. Does anyone have suggestions about placement? Color? Any GOOD advice. I will get it either way but I want to do it safely. Oh, and I have metal allergies, really really badly ... I'm allergic to any metal besides 10k Gold, Sterling Silver, Surgical Steel, Titanium and Stainless Steel. Should I ask about possible ink allergies when I go to get it?

Thank you all!

Sorry §¤ŅG.¥ ... I accidently hit the wrong button when my mouse froze momentarily. Thank you for the good idea about seeing a doctor first.

meg said that pale is beautiful. Should I just stick with black? I mean I like it but I thought that it would be too dark for my skin which is why I was thinking more like gray. Should I go bright or dark?

I know better than to go to any where that isn't sterile, I have five cartilage piercings and all of them have been done professionally.

Oh, another pointless add on that I wish I had mentioned in the question. I have the symbol printed out and saved to take with me so that it can't be messed up. Yeah, they are very tricky which is why I saved it after I looked it up.

I know it is a very visible place but it's not gross or anything and I can use tattoo covering foundation if need be. And to everyone who has said pale is good, thank you! I've always hated how fair skinned I am but this could work to my advantage. :) Red is a good idea ...

there is no "major vein" that can be cut and kill you. your probably thinking of arteries and the needles they use won't even go that far into the skin unless your getting it from a witch doctor. first you should go to the doctor and check if you can even get this tattoo done. im not against you having it but its always good to check. if your pale a good color to get is something that does stand it. you can always go with the infamous red dragons if your want it to blend a little but anything else would be bright. if your getting a tattoo on the forearm get ready to cry...im serious...there are alot of nerves on places like the forearm and triceps area so if your up to it hell go ahead. the most important thing is to check if the person giving you the tattoo knows of your allergies and has other alternative uses. also check what types of inks they use and bring it to the doctor to make sure it won't do anything to you.

i think that bright tattoos are pretty on pale skin. but if you don't like it then you can get whatever.

why your wrist? you can get a tattoo anywhere on your body without worrying about veins. i have tattoos on top of both of my feet and have never had any problem. BUT i would be hesitant to get a first third or even tenth tattoo on my wrist. it is such a visible spot. i am on my 3rd tattoo (17 hours of work in the past 12 months) right now and am hesitant to move to my arms. it really is a huge commitment regardless of size and no matter how you feel about tattoos there is a social stigma about it still. tho peoples minds are being changed every day i just think you should really think long and hard about the placement. but good luck in whatever you do!

The tattoo machine will not slice through your veins. I just got a tat low on the inside of my wrist, this past Saturday, and is was one of my least painful tats so far. There is a (bad) picture of it on my 360, the only part that hurt was on the skull's chin. Good luck!

As for color, try red with no black outline. I have the word "tattoo" on my back in Korean (Hangul) in all red. It looks cool, almost like a cut.

Don't worry about the vein issue, the needles dont go that deep.

Also, be careful with the ink, ask the artist about it, because some of the inks use metals in them. And with your allergies, it wouldnt be too good for you.
You should deffinately be asking your artist any questions that you might have about your tattoos, theyre the expert.

Well, firstly, you might want to know that often when you get chinese symbols and such, they can be very easily messed up. If one line is wrong, it can mean something else entirely. Also, I think that black would be nice. Pale is beautiful( in my opinion, anyway.) Find a very good place to go where they keep things sterial and clean. Good luck!
