they split up and make new churches is because they interpret The Bible in different ways, I agree so what's so bad about bishop interpreting The Bible for you?

since the knowlege of interpreting has been passed down from the apostles (the style of interpreteration)... that is why catholics don't split like the protestants do.

The intolerance so many Christians have for one another is amazing and saddening.

No one in the Catholic church says you cannot read the Bible for yourself. It is perfectly okay. If you wonder about any part of it, your priest will be happy to give you the official interpretation of the mother church. If you want to pursue it further, you might be surprised how differently various Catholic theologians see certain matters of faith.

Catholic and most protestant churches do have certain doctrines you must believe if you wish to belong to that particular denomination. If you disagree with the doctrines, presumably you will wish to go elsewhere.

The Catholic church does not claim to have a monopoly on getting you to heaven, no matter what you may have heard or read. It does claim that it can guarantee your salvation, which it cannot do if you look elsewhere. That makes sense to me.

Well, all Christian faiths, excepts perhaps Gnostics and Coptics, were once Catholic. So OBVIOUSLY Catholics split up. In fact most christian religions splintered from the catholic church and fewer split from their own protestant denominations.

Catholics have constantly shifted their view of the Bible. AND more importantly that view is far removed from being handed down by actual apostles. The major contributers are St. Paul, a convert, and Sts. Augustine and Aquinas, check for yourself. And most Catholic Priests and Bishops would list these three over all the apostles (except Peter) for the current church. The original apostles had very very different practices, for starters celebrating Sabbath(Saturday) and Christ Resurrection on Sunday, using the symbol of a fish, allowing women to be bishops, allowing bishops to marry. Including any and all available texts at the time and incouraging individual interpretations. All the changes came some time after the council of Nicene.

Check it out, your bishop is wrong.

Take the Lutherans who split over translating the Bible into German, allowing priests to marry, AND the fact the Catholic church required payment for penances including those of the family departed.

NONE OF WHICH, has any basis in the bible in the first place.

No where does Jesus say, Only Latin shall the bible be written in. He would probably have found this offensive since Jesus country was occupied by Rome.

No where does it say women can't be priests or that priests can't marry.

And nowhere does Jesus ask for money. In fact, wasn't it "give your silver to Rome", or something. Maybe that's why Catholics built the vatican their and not in Jerusalem.

I am still a Catholic at heart. But when my Church spent $17million to switch the church around so the alter would face the parking lot, I left. So did my Dad.

I spent 8 years in their catholic schools and was a phenomenal religious student.

The problem with Catholics is that they feel they are the infallible interpreters of the Bible (the Bible doesn't say that, of course). And their interpretations have changed over the centuries.
Protestants believe you can read and interpret the Bible yourself, which explains the differences---people are different.
Why would you not want to study the Bible for yourself instead of letting a fallible human being dictate to you?

The protestant Bible is different because they TOOK OUT books of the Bible that they chose not to believe. And being a Christian means that you love ALL people regardless of religion. So it's just a matter of Faith. What do you believe? I'm Catholic, but I disagree with "preaching against non-Catholics". Vice versa, I cannot stand people who taunt Catholocism. Christianity is so not about that. Tolerance is supposed to be the standard.

I could not dispute your logic on any level for many people such as yourself feel deeply along the same lines. I was a lost sinner before Lord Jesus called me into his fold I had already broken every commandment, all the sins listed in the bible text and invented a few not there. My lord Jesus Christ has used me in ways that only a well disciplined Catholic like yourself could possibly understand.
He has called me by name, taken me to places you could only hope to see one day, and answered the one question that had caused me distress. Since that day I live a peaceful life knowing what to expect without fear.
I hope that you have the understanding that was given to me, by reading and praying for understanding while studying the Holy Bible, By your Bishop/Priest/Preacher/Leader or whomever you have put in charge of your immortal spirit!?

Protestants believe that you have a personal relationship with God. You don't have to go through people in order to interpret it the correct way, or live correctly. I believe the reason protestants have split so much, is because they have put secular issues above the real issues.

The protestants didnt split because of different interpretations perse but more because there are teachings in Catholicism that arent in the Bible and even against what the Bible teaches.... Thats why the split.

ok i am a protestant and my fiance is catholic. and i grew up in a protestant church so my feelings are going to be different. I don't understand the catholic church, i have been to a mass and it confused me from the word go. the reason i don't care for the catholic church is because of my daughter. when trying to decide wether to have her baptized or christened i started calling around and NO catholic church would christen her with me there because i am not catholic nor will they marry us, unless i convert to catholisim. because of that we are going to wait until our daughter is old enough to make that decision for herself. My fiance and i have had heated discussions on this subject.
