Pediatricians do treat kids from ages 18 and under.
Ever see the movie The Wedding Planner? Well in the beginning it is JLo and she falls and almost gets run over by a dumpster and the guy that saves her is a pediatrician. He treats her at his office, but the things in a pedicatrician's office are smaller sizes to fit children and not for adult-sied bodies. Pediatricians could treat some basic things in adults, but there are some conditions that only adults get and not children that pediatricians may not be as aware of and so you would be better off in going to someone who specializes in your age-group

Pediatricians do treat teenagers and they can treat adults but don't do it because they specialized in treating people 18 and under. All a pediatrician is is a normal doctor who specialized in treating people 18 and under. Some docs just want to treat everyone while others want to see only a certain type of patient so that is what they specialize in.

Pediatrics is their 'specialty' so they only focus on babies and small children.
They could probably diagnose a teenager or adult (if they really had to - in emergency cases).
A heart surgeon could also diagnose but they have chosen to 'specialize'.
Some medical students choose to be 'family' doctors and others continue their education to 'specialize' - it just all depends on the person and what they want to do.

Most pediatricians treat anyone under 18. Some will treat a life long patient until they are 21. Depends on the Dr.

It isn't that they aren't allowed to; they are M.D.s, and they can legally practice medicine. However, they are specialists whose training has focused on diagnosing and treating children. Not only don't they want to practice in areas outside their specialty because they feel less competent in that field, but in many parts of the country, there aren't enough pediatricians to treat the children, so they don't want to squander their time on things which others could do better.

They can, but teenagers and adults have different issues than children. A pediatrician specializes in dealing with children and their needs. I saw my ped til I got married at 18, aND ONE OF MY KIDS used a non-ped for years.

i went to a pediatrician till i was 17.... they can, theres lots that will but i'm sure that there are some that just don't. its not that they aren't trained for anything but children/babies, because all doctors are trained for everything. you probably won't be able to just randomly try and get an appointment at a pediatrician's office, you probably will have to have been going to them for a while.

They can but can also choose not to.
Remember- this doc spent extra years training in a specialty: pediatrics.
The scope of their practice is: pediatrics.
I wouldn't want a pediatrician to treat my elderly dad.
