India has made strides despite many handicaps.
India’s overall growth has been slow because of the style of governance.
India’s economic growth has slowed because of rapid population growth.
India has not grown as desired because of tardiness of most Indians.
India’s growth has been eroded by corruption practiced by nearly every
individual: high or low

India is still under developed country because India does not have young politicians with positive, creative and benevolent point of view. India still has all those politicians from the freedom movement whose last wishes are to be the prime minister but nothing else. The present scenario of the politics shows that India won't be able to get fresh and young point of views until those old politicians die.
India needs young , energetic and strong political base which can only make India a developed country.

India is an under developed country because there is no standard or common education for all the students .Not only that there is corruption in many fields.Due to that many people in various fields are affected and disgraced. Then they also try to cheat others .Unemployment is another reason .
That is why India is a developing country.

I disagree with the question..!
India is a 'developing' country.. and NOT an under-developed country.. nobody has ever used such a term..!!
And .. just like what Author Shashi Tharoor feels, most of the people living in the high societies of today, care ONLY for their own welfare and not for the society's or country's! A majority of the IT industry folks make good money and buy large houses and see to it that they maintain their houses real clean.. but not a centimetre outside their houses... If this changes, I guess there could be a brighter future!!

These all might have been invented by India before... but the thing you need to remember is the current status!!!!... It's still a developing country. Reason?. Thousands of years of foreign rule. Everything is gone.. stolen.. It's back was broken. It is now trying to get up on it's own.... People can say a lot about current state of India. No matter what you were before, people see you today and talk about you today. No point bragging about something done thousands of years back. Atleast some of it is being coming out... Yoga is getting popular. People are practicing kamasutra... Vedic mathematics that can easily solve complex equations are being brought into light... It will take sometime to get it's shine back unless these corrupte politicans with their personal agenda continue to screw it. That's the reality. Face it!!!

INDIA is considered as a developing country and is trying to achieve the name of Developed country.
the reason for being late in achieving this name is that due to the selfishness of those leaders and Common people who are going behind money and forget their responsibilities towards their people and their country.
The Dream will come to be true only when we the human being
will think deeply over the matter and will take the steps to remove
all those evils from the society like corruption, increasing Population,Mal Nutrition,Illiteracy etc.
Its the responsibility of every INDIANS to make use of Its rich resources and varied heritage in order to make our country BEST.
In this age of Globalisation and technology nothing is impossible.
as we know that "we don't have to try to out do all the rest, we are always a winner if we do our very best". so its my humble and respective request to our brother en open their eyes look towards the opportunities for INDIA to be fully develop.
In INDIA their is only lake of Good mind, Unity and knowledge due
to which it is still not Fully developed.

Over population which results for the social conflicts and poverty thus making us to depend on others for basic survival itself.
As long as:
1. the population is not controlled,
2. violaters are not getting the share,
3. the gap between the rich and poor is existing,
4. laws are loose and section of people are getting its advantage, 5. policy amkers are getting the taste of reality on the ground,
6. all the stakeholders are not involed in their development starting from conceptualisation to its implemention etc.we will in the stage of under developed country only.

Because the government is corrupt and doesn't care about the poeple. I experienced this after just coming back from a hoilday there.
And about the idiot below who just said the the poeple in india are not educated...ve got 2 say...that unlike people in western countries....if the needy people in india were offered a chance to be educated they would take it....and even those who are educated don't throw their chance in the bin like an enormous amount of people in western society\
People in India are educated maybe not in the literacy and number area but ther are definately educated about how to live life....which is more than i can say about 75% of the population of people living in western society
