I was just reading about the new "happy tail ale" non-alcoholic beer and was wondering, what effect does real beer have on dogs?

Alcohol poisoning can happen VERY quickly in dogs because they have smaller livers than humans. You should NEVER give your any type of alcoholic beverage. That being said, they pretty much start to act drunk just as a human does; bumping into things, walking unsteadily, acting strange. I've never done it but I found some idiot kids that had given a dog beer (a fair amount). They got themselves chewed up pretty bad and it wasn't from the dog either ;-)

Definately not a good idea. At my friends house their dad spilt beer into the dog's water bowl by accident and the next day the dog was excessively panting and vomiting. It cannot kill them but is very bad for them.

Dogs get drunk just like people do. I figured this one out after my poodle drank an entire glass of wine I left on the floor.

And according to a guy my sister used to date, both cats and dogs get high off of marijuana smoke.

Personally I'd keep my animals away from all mind-altering substances.

I think it would have a similar effect on dogs as it does on humans, but I just saw on TV that they have a beef flavored beer for dogs and apparently they love it.
